The route at a glance

The Saarland cycle route is a loop of about 350 kilometres that starts in Saarbrücken. First you follow the Saar through its valley of meadows and woods to the Saarschleife, the great bend of the river near Mettlach, where you can also visit the Villeroy & Boch ceramics works. You also pass through Merzig and St. Wendel, and away from the river the country turns hilly. Most of the route runs on well-built, signposted cycle paths, but the hills call for some fitness.
