The route at a glance

The Aare Route is Swiss National Route 8, running about 315 kilometres from Oberwald in the Valais to the point near Koblenz where the Aare flows into the Rhine. On the way you pass the Aare Gorge at Meiringen and ride through Interlaken with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in view. From there you head to Bern, whose old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then on through farmland and small towns to Lake Biel. The route is well signposted and suits relaxed riders and experienced tourers alike.
