The route at a glance

The Alpine Panorama Route is Swiss National Route 4, running for about 475 kilometres from Schaffhausen and the Rhine Falls to Aigle in the Rhone valley. After rolling sections in the Mittelland you head into the foothills and the Alps, through the Appenzell region with its cheese tradition and over the Jaun Pass. You pass lakes, alpine meadows and forests, with the peaks often in view. The final stretch runs through the Rhone valley vineyards, and the many climbs make this a route for experienced cyclists.
