The route at a glance
The Fulda cycle path R1 follows the Fulda for about 250 kilometres, from its source near Gersfeld in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve to Hann. Münden, where it joins the Werra to form the Weser. After the basalt hills of the Rhön the route runs through meadows, woods and wide floodplains. The baroque town of Fulda has its cathedral and palace, Bad Hersfeld its monastery, and Hann. Münden greets you with half-timbered houses. The path is well signposted and mostly flat, so it suits riders without much experience.
