The route at a glance

The Mittelland Route is Swiss national route 5 and runs for about 375 kilometres from Lausanne on Lake Geneva to Romanshorn on Lake Constance. In between you ride through the Swiss Mittelland with its fields, woods and quiet rivers, passing Fribourg and Bern, whose medieval old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cycle paths are well built and signposted, and the small villages have country inns for a stop. It suits a first multi-day tour as well as riding single stages.
