The route at a glance

The Lakes Route is Swiss National Route 9 and runs around 510 kilometres from Montreux on Lake Geneva to Rorschach on Lake Constance. By way of Gruyères and its old town and the Simmental with its farmhouses you reach Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, with views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in the Bernese Oberland. You then cross central Switzerland past Lake Sarnen, Lake Lucerne and Lake Zug on your way to Lake Constance. Alongside quiet lakeshore paths there are some demanding sections, so some fitness helps.
