The route at a glance

The Wasserburgen-Route, the moated castle route, is about 380 kilometres long and links more than 120 moated castles, palaces and historic estates in the Rhineland and the Eifel. You start in Brühl at Augustusburg Palace and ride through the countryside around Cologne and Bonn, along quiet rivers and through woods, fields and villages. Well known stops include Satzvey Castle, Miel Palace and Flamersheim Castle. The paths are well signposted and mostly flat, so the route suits beginners and anyone interested in castles and history.
